Our Story…

After graduating from The George Washington University, with degrees in International Affairs and Art History, I went straight into a career in the art world. However, life quickly demonstrated it had other plans for me (and my family) when a global pandemic turned galleries and museums into ghost towns. The timing coincided almost remarkably with a personal realization that I needed a dramatic career change.

I moved back home to Kentucky to be with family and figure out what the future might bring. As it so happens, the future brought a 16 acre farm.

So with absolutely no prior experience farming my parents and I jumped head first into the daunting task of transforming this thoroughbred layup facility into a market garden and family home. Being originally from Scotland, we named the farm Dalriada (which roughly translates from Gaelic to “Kingdom of the Scots”). It was the name my grandparents gave to their home in the small town of Oban. It is our way of having them here with us every day. They would have loved this place.

After being vegan for over a decade, I knew that if I was going to manage the farm - it would have to be done in a way which would uphold, and even promote, environmental sustainability and animal rights. I can proudly say this has, and will continue to be, the practice here everyday.

The journey so far has been incredibly rewarding. The projects are never-ending, but so are the moments spent feeling grateful for the path life has taken us down.

And the bakery?

The bakery was born out of my lifelong love of baking and passion for sharing delicious homemade food with everyone around me. Pairing amazing sweet and savory treats with our fresh produce just made sense to us. After all, a lot of the ingredients we need are found right in the garden!

The philosophies of sustainability and conservation we practice outside are of course followed in the kitchen as well. The bakery is 100% vegan, meaning no animal products/byproducts are used. Everything is made by hand and baked with love.

Our adventure is ongoing and we can’t wait to see what the future brings here at Dalriada!
